Güven Zeyrek

Güven Zeyrek was born in Ayvalık in 1935. He began to take a serious interest in painting when he met famous painter Adnan Turani when he was a middle school student. After graduating from the Painting Department of Gazi Institute in Ankara in 1957, Zeyrek returned to Izmir and taught painting and art history at Izmir Private Turkish College from 1957 to 1987. He has participated in many group exhibitions and held his solo exhibitions in Izmir, Istanbul and Ankara. Zeyrek contributed to the establishment of the Museum of Painting and Sculpture in Izmir. In 1983 he joined the Akatünvel Group. In 2007 Zeyrek held his solo exhibition "Güven Zeyrek 1957-2007 Retrospective" at the Kibele Is Bank Art Gallery in Istanbul. In 2008 this exhibition was held at the Ege University Atatürk Culture Center in Izmir. He also had his exhibition in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Sarajevo with a support of the Turkish Foreign Ministry. Zeyrek currently continues his work in Izmir.
