Hikmet Karabucak was born in Kütahya in 1944. She finished primary school and always had an interest in painting in her childhood. In 1988, she began painting her poems with Mustafa Dulda and Ahmet Akata at the Adana Fine Arts Gallery.
The main theme of her paintings is the culture of local life. Each one of her works takes us to Kütahya, where she lived her childhood in an environment very rich in Turkish Culture. In 1993, Karabucak joined the group "Turkish Naives". Since 1994, she has participated in the world Naives Group Exhibition, which has been organized in Paris, Bologna and Amsterdam every year. Karabucak participated in the Kütahya International Cultural and Tourism Festival in 1997, 1998, and 1999. She took part in ART Istanbul International Contemporary Arts Meeting in 2002 and 2003. In 2005, she was invited to the Arad International Art Biennial in Romania; and to the Bologna International Naives Group Exhibition. She has also had 23 solo exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. Her works were exhibited in the Gallery, Naifs du Monde Entier in Paris.
Between 1992 and 2005, Karabucak won 20 prizes in many competitions and festivals. She was invited to the Amerlinghaus Culture Center in Vienna as a Turkish artist and received an honor prize. In 2003, four of her paintings were printed on cards by Istanbul TAP Foundation. Her works can be seen in many collections in Turkey and abroad. Karabucak published her poetry books: “Gönül Yeşilim” (1994), “Barış Gelincikleri 3” (2003) and “Sevginin Gücü” (2005). As of today, she continues to work at her own workshop in Adana.
