Hüseyin Cahit Derman was born in Istanbul in 1951. He started painting at Pera artists′ workshops in Galatasaray and Asmalımescit, and studied Classical Academic Paintings. After 1967, he worked on his painting with Pertev Boyar, and he was influenced by Impressionism. Derman had his first solo exhibition in 1971. Since then, he has had many solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir. In 1973, he entered the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, where he graduated in 1979.
Derman, who generally paints Istanbul scenes and life, is known as one of the pioneers of Turkish Contemporary Romantic Artists. Besides paintings, he has created works of pottery, statues, caricatures, woodcarvings, and furniture. His works can be seen in many public and private collections.
Currently, Derman continues painting in Istanbul.
