Ilgım Veryeri-Alaca was born in Istanbul in 1975. She graduated from the Painting Department at Mimar Sinan University in 1997. She then obtained her master’s degree from the California State University. In 1999, she received a scholarship from Illinois University and completed her Ph.D. in Art and Design at Urbana-Champaign. During her study, she gave courses in drawing and etching.
Since 1998, Veryeri-Alaca′s work has involved the synthesis of marbleizing (Ebru) paper with printmaking, in which she describes her process as the building of compositions with two complementary techniques. She received sufficient doctorate in Art from Hacettepe University. She taught as a visiting lecturer in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Richmond in the 2006-2007 academic years.
Veryeri-Alaca has participated in many group exhibitions in the USA, Italy, Georgia, Turkey, Germany, Poland and Bulgaria. She has received many international awards in the field of original prints. Her works can be seen in the collections of California State University, Texas University and Istanbul Bilgi University. As of today, she serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Fine Art at Bilkent University in Ankara.
