İrfan Okan was born in Izmir in 1960. In the 1980s, he started making art works with ceramic. From 1982 to 1988, he studied painting with Neş′e Erdok and Devrim Erbil at the Painting Department in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan University. He completed his master′s degree (1990) and doctoral degree, proficiency in art (1995) at his alma mater. In 1990, Okan won the first prize in the Contemporary Turkish Painting Competition, which was held at Ramko Gallery in Istanbul. The next year, he had his first solo exhibition at Ramko Gallery. Since then, he has had more than 20 solo exhibitions and participated in over 50 group exhibitions. Currently, Okan teaches at Mimar Sinan University and continues painting in Istanbul.
