Jale Yılmabaşar was born in Samsun in 1939. She began making ceramics when she went to the US to study at Albany Union High School with AFS fellowship. After returning to Turkey, she continued her study at the Ceramic Department of the State Academy of Fine Arts. In 1998, Yılmabaşar received the title of State Artist from Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. She served as a professor at the Ceramic Department in the Faculty of Fine Arts of Marmara University for a long time. She also completed her study in the Department of Painting and Graphic at Munich Academy. Since 1984, Yılmabaşar has painted and made ceramics. She has had numerous solo exhibitions and participated in various group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. Yılmabaşar served as a juried member in many competitions, which were organized in the Picasso Museum. She has received numerous awards for her works. Currently, Yılmabaşar continues her work in Istanbul and Munich.
