Murat Özbakır was born in Adana in 1976. He graduated from the Painting Volume of the Department of Fine Arts Education in the Education Faculty at Çukurova University in 2003. In 2008, he received a merit award at Anadolu University, 50th Painting Competition in Eskişehir; a merit award at İnönü University, 3rd National Painting Competition in Malatya. In 2009, Özbakır won a merit award at İnönü University, 4th National Painting Competition in Malatya. Currently, he continues to paint in Adana.
