Prof. Nazan Sönmez

Nazan Sönmez was born in Diyarbakır in 1949. She entered the Painting Department in the State Academy of Fine Art, where she studied painting with Nurullah Berk and Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu. Sönmez graduated from the academy in 1972. After teaching painting in Elazığ in 1976-1982, she moved to Ankara and continued painting. In 1982 Sönmez held her first solo exhibition in Istanbul. In 1985 she began teaching painting at the Plastic Arts Department in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Hacettepe University. In 1987 she completed her doctoral degree, proficiency in art, at Hacettepe University.

Prof. Sönmez has held 17 solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. Her painting can be seen in many national and international private and public collections. She is a member of the United Association of Painters and Sculptors (Birleşmiş Ressam ve Heykeltraşlar Derneği), Academy Alumni Association (Akademi Mezunları Derneği), International Ex-libris Society, Association of Art Educators (Sanat Eğitimcileri Derneği) and UPSD (International Association of Plastic Arts). Prof. Sönmez currently continues teaching at Hacettepe University and Near Eastern University.
