Nevin Çokay was born in Istanbul in 1930. She studied painting in the studio of Bedri Rahmi Eyupoğlu at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts between 1947 and 1953. She joined the Group Ten. She had her first exhibition in the Maya Gallery in 1953. Between 1950 and 1953, Çokay was a member of the State Choir for Turkish Folk Music under the direction of Nedim Otyam. She participated in many concerts and folkloric arrangements in Turkey and Italy. She also worked as a voice artist and acted in the film “yurda Dönüş”.
Çokay concentrated on painting after 1954. She has had many solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous group exhibitions. In 1961, she won a second price in the Istanbul Art Festival. In 1979, she was invited to Holland, and exhibited her painting in several museums and galleries in Deventer, The Hague and Rotterdam. Çokay taught art and art history in high schools for 17 years. She also gave private painting classes in various gallery studios. Her works can be seen in many public and private collections in Turkey and abroad. Currently, Çokay continues to work at her workshop in Istanbul.
