Nur Koçak was born in Istanbul in 1941. When she studied at the TED Ankara College, where she learned painting from Turgut Zaim. During her high school time in Washington DC, Koçak was selected as the best student on painting by Leon Berkowitz (1911-1987). In 1960, she went back to Turkey and studied painting with Adnan Çöker, Cemal Tollu and Neşet Günal at the Painting Department of the Istanbul Fine Arts Academy and graduated in 1968. Between 1970 and 1974, Koçak continued post Graduate studies specializing in Painting at Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux arts in Paris. During staying in Paris, Koçak had an opportunity to look around many museums and galleries in Europe. She began the painting series “Fetiş Nesneler /Nesne Kadınlar” in Paris in 1974. In the same year, Koçak went back to Istanbul and began teaching at Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts between 1975 and 1981. She then taught at the Painting Department of the Faculty of Education at Marmara University between 2000 and 2001. Koçak has had 13 solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. She has been granted one governmental scholarship and 5 awards. Since 1981, Koçak has continued painting at her workshop in Istanbul.
