Associate Professor Nurdan Karasu Gökçe was born in Edremit. She moved to Kayseri. She graduated from the Painting Department in the Faculty of Education at Gazi University in 1990. In the next year, she received a fellowship from the Turkish Ministry of Education and went to the USA for her graduate study. Between 1991 and 1994, she studied at Glendora Citrus College at Claremont Graduate University (Department of Fine Arts) and LA Otis College of Art and Design in California. After completing her master’s degree in the Department of Fine Arts at Claremont Graduate University in 1994, Gökçe went back to Turkey and became an assistant in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Erciyes University in Kayseri. In 2003, she won an Akbank Honor Award in the exhibitions of the 22nd Contemporary Artists Istanbul. In 2004, she completed her doctoral degree, proficiency in arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Hacettepe University in Ankara. In 2007, Gökçe published two books: ““Drawing Techniques and Materials” and “Light and Shadow in Drawing” with Nazim Mehmet. In the same year, she presented her paper on “A Unique Dance Form: Butoh” at the Fifth International Conference on New Directions in The Humanities, Paris. In 2008, Gökçe became an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Erciyes University. Gökçe has had several solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey, USA, England and Bulgaria. In 2009, she was invited to the Florence Biennial. As of today, Gökçe continues to teach at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Erciyes University.
