Dr. Nuri Battal was born in Istanbul in 1962. He started painting in his childhood. With the support of his painting teacher, Battal participated in a painting competition at Kabataş High School for Boys, and won second prize. He continued painting when he studied at the Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine of Istanbul University. After graduating from Istanbul university in 1986, he became an assistant at his alma mater. During pursuing his career at Nevada University for 6 months in 1990, Battal took painting and plastic arts classes at the College of Liberal Arts, where he had his first solo exhibition. In 1995, he went to Japan, and studied on the branch of plastic and esthetic surgery at Kanagawa University with a fellowship of Japanese Government. He also continued his art works in the program of painting, plastic arts and traditional handicrafts at Kagawa Prefecture Cultural Center for three years. In Japan, Battal participated in some group exhibitions, which were held in Takamatsu City Museum of Art and Kagawa Prefectural Cultural Museum. After returning to Turkey, Battal became a plastic and esthetic surgeon at several hospitals, but he has continued his painting. Battal has had several solo exhibitions, and has participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. Currently, Battal continues his art works at his own workshop in Istanbul.
