Prof. Oktay Anılanmert was born in Istanbul in 1939. He attended the painting department of the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts, where he became a faculty member in 1971. He became an assistant professor in 1981, and a professor in 1989. He is currently a faculty member at the Fine Arts Faculty of Kadir Has University and continues his artistic work at his workshop in Istanbul. His creativity is reflected in paintings, large scale installations, multi media (fresco, metal, ceramic, mosaic) as well as performing arts. Prof. Anılanmert has been taking part in international exhibitions, biennales and shows, as well as national arts events since the 1960′s. His multi-media installations and commissioned works can be seen in public and private buildings. His paintings are figurative and abstract. The Artist interprets disappearing human values and subjects related to life, alternating between humor and criticism. In his characteristic white period, motion is emphasized and white is used both as a color and as light. Dynamic linear patterns introduced into this plainness attract the eye to certain forceful areas on the canvas, causing us to perceive a unity. "Empty space" is one of the most important elements of all his compositions. All his paintings reveal a calculation of the amount of empty space, ensuring the balance of the composition. This concept of emptiness is a tool with which he questions the concept of space in his later works, such as the exhibition on "Paintings of the Non-existing Space".
