Rıdvan Coşkun was born in Germany in 1972. He graduated from Anadolu University, the Faculty of Fine Arts Painting Department in 1996, and started to work as a research assistant at the same department in 1997. He completed master’s degree and doctoral degree at his alma mater. He then became an associate professor four years later. Having taken part in many group exhibitions and competitive exhibitions, Coşkun was awarded the second prize in Ankara University’s 50th Foundation Day, Painting Competition in 1996, Art Encouragement Prize at Anadolu University in 2006, and Eskişehir Art Association’s 2007, Eskişehir Painting Prize. Some of the competitive exhibitions he took part in are: State Painting and Sculpture Competition Exhibitions (1996-97-98-2000), Naval Forces Traditional Sea Themed Painting Competition Exhibitions (1997-98-2000), DYO Painting Competition Exhibition (1997), Turkiye Is Bankasi Blue Ribbon Original Printmaking Competition Exhibition (1997), Tolga Eti Art Gallery Painting Competition (1998), Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Painting Competition Exhibition (1998), and TRT Painting and Ceramic Exhibition (2001), Şefik Bursalı Painting Competition Exhibition. Coşkun has had seven personal exhibitions in Akpınar Art Gallery, Ankara (1999), METU Parlar Foundation Art Gallery (2000), Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Art Gallery (2001), State Fine Arts Gallery, Eskişehir (2002), Vestel Art Gallery, Eskişehir (2006) and Süleyman Demirel University Demiralay Mansion Exhibition Hall (2007), Ziraat Bank Culture Center Mithatpaşa Art Gallery (2009). The artist still works as an associate professor in the Department of Painting and vice dean at the Fine Arts Faculty of Anadolu University.
