Selma Akgün was born in 1946 in Edremit, Balıkesir, where she finished primary, middle and high school education. She studied at the Faculty of Political Sciences of Ankara University, but did not complete it. She graduated from the Department of French Language and Literature in the Faculty of Language, History and Geography at Ankara University. Akgün learned drawing and painting from her uncle Celal Yetkin. She has expressed her emotions with naive paintings. In 1998, 2000 and 2002, Akgün participated in the competition of “Female Artists in Turkey”, which were organized by Turkish Women Association Izmir Branch, and she received “Worth to be Exhibited” with an honorable certificate. She has had four solo exhibitions and has participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey. Her works can be seen in public and private collections in Turkey. Currently, Akgün continues to work at her own workshop in Edremit, Balıkesir.
