Sibel Kocakaya was born in Istanbul in 1986. She graduated from the Department of Photography in the Faculty of Fine Arts Education at Marmara University in 2009. She has continued her master′s degree at the Division of Painting in the Institute of Fine Arts of Marmara University since 2011. In 2013-2014, she studied painting at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon. Kocakaya has participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. In 2014 she attended a residency program in the International artists in Bern. Kocakaya currently lives and works in Istanbul.
