Tülay Tura Börteçene

Tülay Tura Börteçene was born in Istanbul. In 1959 she graduated from the Painting Department at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, where she studied with Halil Dikmen and Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu. In 1961-1962 Börteçene studied painting and ceramic at Wisconsin University. She held her first solo exhibition at the Istanbul American News Center in 1959. In 1963 Börteçene established "Mavi Group" with Adnan Çoker, Devrim Erbil, Altan Görman, and Sarkis. In 1964 she married with the poet and writer Ahmet Oktay Börtecene and moved to Ankara. In 1964-1974 she taught painting at TED Ankara College. Börteçene has participated in many group exhibitions in the US, France, and Italy. In 1966 her work was exhibited in the Tehran Biennial. She moved back to Istanbul in 1974. Börteçene currently continues her work in Istanbul.
