Türkan Kıran was born in Eğridir in 1927. In 1937, she began her first private lessons in drawing, piano and foreign languages while studying at the Samsun Secondary School. In 1953, Kıran went on a tour that took her through Florence, Rome, Venice, Milan, Washington, Chicago, New York, London and Zurich, where she undertook lengthy studies in different art circles and also painted. In 1955, she took private painting lessons from Zeki Faik Izer, Bedri Rahmi Eyuboğlu and Eren Eyuboğlu at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1964, Kıran began taking painting lessons from Prof. Ayetullah Sumer in his workshop and continued them for years. In 1965, she was awarded a scholarship by the Academy of Fine Arts to go to the Bruxelles Royal Academy. Kıran is the member of the Fine Arts Association, the Association of Women Artists, the Society for the Protection of Nature, the Society for the Protection of Women`s Rights, and the As Group. She has participated in many exhibitions in Turkey.
