Reha Akçakaya was born in Ankara in 1963. He graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Boğaziçi University in 1985. After completing his Master′s degree at his alma mater in 1988, Akçakaya pursued his study at Alfred University in 1989-1991 and completed his second Master′s degree. In 2001 he obtained his doctoral degree in Engineering Management at Marmara University. Dr. Akçakaya worked as a researcher at Boğaziçi University in 1985-1988. He then started working as a research engineer at Turkish Şişecam Group. Since 2014 he has been working as Director of Düzcam Group.
Besides his profession, Akçakaya has been taking black-and-white photographs. Since 1990 he has concentrated on infrared photography. He was invited to various photography contests and events, and represented Turkey. He has won many prizes at national and international photography competitions. His works have been published on several occasions and publications including "Journey With the Invisible Light" (1995). He has translated some photography literatures such as Susan Sontag′s "On Photography" and Roland Barthes′ "Camera Lucida" into Turkish. Aköakaya has held many solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. He has written many articles, attended radio and TV shows, and has lectured on art of photography.
