Prof. Sabit Kalfagil was born in Elazığ in 1934. After finishing Konya High School, he graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at Istanbul Technical University. After working at the Istanbul Municipality for a while, he worked as a chairman advisor and vice presidency. He started photography at the age of 26. He took pictures of Anatolian people and Anatolian culture. Kalfagil had his first solo exhibition in 1972. Since then, he has held many solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. He has received many awards. Kalfagil has also served as a jury member in various conferences, contests, and symposiums. He published his first book "Fotoğraf Sanatında Kompozisiyon" (1981). His first album "Fatih Anıtları" followed it in 1988. Kalfagil was a founding member of the Photography Institute in the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1989, he became an Associate Professor; and served as Chair of the Department of Documentary Photography in the Faculty of Photography at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. In 1993, Kalfagil prepared nine documentaries "Işığın Peşinde Anadolu" with Kamil Firat. In 1998, Kalfagil started working as a Professor at the Photography Department of Marmara University. He currently continues working at the Photography Department of Marmara University. He is a member of P.T.F.D. and IFSAK.
