Sarp Kerem Yavuz was born in Paris in 1991 and raised in Istanbul. He studied Studio Art at Oberlin College where he graduated in 2013. Currently, he continues his master′s degree in Photography at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He primarily works with large format and instant film, and both formats serve to challenge notions of masculinity. Yavuz had his first solo exhibition "Bridging the Gaps" at the Enka Dr. Clinton Vickers Gallery in Istanbul. His second solo photography exhibition and performance "They Used to Call Me A Fag" was held at Oberlin College. He has participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey and the US. In 2012, Yavuz received the Leah Freed Memorial Prize for his work from the Oberlin College Gender, Sexuality and Feminist Studies Institute. In 2012, his work "Substitutes for My Father" was included in the Impossible Works Collection. |
