Dilara Akay was born in Adana in 1963. She graduated from Boğaziçi University. Akay has involved in many national and international design and art projects from creating "Dice Kayek" and "David People" fashion brands to writing essays in "Gazete Pazar" and "Biz Magazine". In 2004, she started creating linear sculptures called ARK’s, which resemble 3D calligraphy. Instead of dealing with the traditional mass, she deals more with the “space” in her sculptures, using natural or manmade industrial materials such as iron, steel, and plastic. Akay has had many solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey. Besides creating ARK’s; Akay is a founder and creative member of Istanbul Dance Theatre (IDT+) (2005), HAYAKA ARTI (2005), “interfacegallery.com” (2009), and TORK (2011). Currently, she lives and works in Istanbul.
