Filiz Çiçek received her BFA in Sculpture from Marmara University School of Fine Arts in 1991 and her MFA in Sculpture from Indiana University, Bloomington in Indiana. During her PhD program in Central Eurasian Studies at Indiana University in Bloomington, she studied feminist art with Judy Chicago. In 2010 Çiçek became the regional Coordinator for Indiana Chapter of The Feminist Art Project (TFAP). She currently serves as the Istanbul coordinator for TFAP. Çiçek completed her Ph.D. at Indiana University in 2012. Dr. Çiçek has attended many conferences to present her papers. Since 1994 she has taught art, gender, cinema, transnational cinema, and related courses at several institutions and universities in the US.
Dr. Çiçek held her solo exhibition on the occasion of the "GenderQueer /QueerGender” Conference at the University of California Santa Barbara, California in 2005. She has organized several art shows in the Bloomington area including “The Women Exposed Art Show,” which has become an annual event, and “The Museum of Broken Relationships,” which is an international event that she brought to Bloomington from Europe with the help of Lori Canada. In 2010, Çiçek was invited to meet with HH Dalai Lama who asked her to “combine art and meditation to serve the greater good.” Since 2011, she has organized and curated the Bloomington Katmandu International Art Exhibit (www.bloomingtonkatmandu.com) at Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center, founded by his late brother Thubten Norbu. Besides them, Çiçek has exhibited in New York, California, Chicago, Indiana, England and Canada. Her works can be seen in the collection of Indiana University and private collection. Dr. Çiçek currently continues her work in the US and Turkey.
