Mustafa Pilevneli was born in Istanbul in 1940. He began his career as an artist at the State School for further Education in Applied Arts. He was appointed as an assistant lecturer there after graduating in 1961. In 1963 he obtained a scholarship of DAD (Federal Germany) to study fresco techniques at Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts. From 1965 up to now he has put his signature to countless different art works in materials such as glass, metal, mosaic, ceramic, concrete and synthetics for many organizations both in Turkey and abroad. He won the Incentive Prize for Artist from the city of Stuttgart (1963); the Prize of Turkish Ministry of Culture 50th Anniversary of the Republic (1971); the Alexandria Biennial Prize for Engravings (1971); the Archaeological Museum Art Prize (1975); the DYO Art Composition Prize (1980). Apart from architectural subjects, the artist has held innumerable exhibitions in printing, watercolor and various art techniques. Among his architectural projects are the following: designs for the stained glass windows of the Presidential Residence, Ankara; the plaster for the windows of the Art and Sculpture Museum, Ankara. He employed different techniques and painted pictures for Divan Hotel and the Atatürk Cultural Center. Together with the artist Orhan Pekeri, Pilevneli has prepared stained glass and ceramics for the Ertuğrul Museum. Together with Yavuz Pilevneli, Mustafa Pilevneli prepared a ceramic panel for Unilever House, Rotterdam. He painted frescoes for the Royal Academy, Ghent, Belgium and made reliefs for the Atatürk Library in Ann Arbor. The Artist also prepared porcelain relief for the Radar Control Tower of the Straits at Çanakkale; the ceramics of the central fountain in the Departure Hall at Antalya Airport; art work for the Chamber of Trade, Istanbul.
