Sevgi Çağal was born in Bursa in 1956. In 1964, she moved to the US with her family, and grew up in New York. She completed her master’s degree in Modern Languages and Art History at New York University in 1980. Çağal continued her studies in France and Turkey with many well-known artists between 1990 and 1998. Since 1997, she has been working independently in her own studio in Istanbul. Çağal also works as a translator, and designs textiles and jewelry. In 2004, she founded the workshop “Studio 19”, and has made bronze sculptures and taught painting. Her sculpture work “adam&eve” and the bench “Loveseat” are placed in the Nişantaşı Art Park in Istanbul. Çağal has had over 25 solo exhibitions and has participated in more than 40 group exhibitions and many international art organizations in the US and abroad. Her work can be seen in many private collections in Turkey, the U.S., France, Spain, Holland, Dubai, Sweden, Hong Kong, U.K. and Australia. Çağal is a member of UPSD and IWI.
