Sevgi Ortaç was born in Istanbul in 1984. She graduated from the Department of Film and TV at Istanbul Bilgi University, and completed her master′s degree in fine arts at the Dutch Art Institute, ArtEZ in the Netherlands in 2010. In 2006, she made Singlewallcity, a short film on the everyday life and spatiality of the Byzantine City Walls of Istanbul. From 2007 to 2008, she directed the cities series for Mezzo (France) in collaboration with Julien de Casabianca. In 2010, Ortaç has published the book "The Monument Upside Down." Her video "Missing the Place" was realized in the framework of the project "Global Prayers" and co-produced by Heinrich Böll Stiftung for the exhibition "the Urban Cultures of Global Prayers" in NGBK, Berlin (2011) and Camera Austria, Graz (2012). Ortaç currently teaches multimedia storytelling at the Galata Fotoğrafhanesi, Photography Academy in Istanbul.
